Canadian National Services by Canadian Scouts in HK

The 1st Hong Kong Canadian Scout Group is an off shore contingent of Scouts Canada in Hong Kong. Since the Group's inauguration in 1992, we have had the honour to provide services to national dignitaries visiting from Canada, as well as the Consulate General of Canada in Hong Kong. 2016 Special Remembrance Service

The Right Honorable Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada briefly visited Hong Kong. A Special Remembrance Service was prepared in his honor, but
because of the downpour of the rain, the Special Service moved under cover.

2013 Private Remembrance Service
Private Service for the Parliamentarians. Canadian Consul General Ian Burchett hosted a delegation of Members of Parliament (MP) and Senators: Joyce Bateman, MP; The Honorable Lawrence MacAulay, PC, MP; Chris Charlton, MP; Pierre Lemieux, MP; The Honorable Jim Munson, Senator; The Honorable
Donald Neil Plett, Senator; Wai Young MP; The Honorable Victor Oh, Senator and Olivia Chow, MP. They visited the Sai Wan War Cemetery, surrounded by Canadians who fell defending Hong Kong in World War II. Scouter Eliza joined them for the Private Ceremony. 2012 Commemorative Ceremony
Never missing a Remembrance Day service, The Right Honorable Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada made a special detour to Hong Kong while

2012 Private Remembrance Service
A Private Service was held for the Provincial and Territorial visiting Premiers, Premiers Selinger, Dexter, McLeod and Pasloski, with Philip Lee, Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba, leading an official delegation of 110 business and institutional leaders from Nova Scotia, Manitoba, Yukon, and Northwest
Territories in the context of the Council of The Federation’s official mission to China/Hong Kong at the Sai Wan War Cemetery in Hong Kong. Thursday,

2009 Prime Minister Visit and Remembrance Service
The Right Honorable Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada visited Hong Kong. We were invited to send a Cub Scout (Justin Leung) to greet the Prime Minister as he landed. A cocktail reception was held, and Prime Minister Harper also honored the Remembrance Service. Photos from the Office of the

2005 Remembrance Service
The Right Honorable Paul Martin, Prime Minister of Canada visited Hong Kong. A special Remembrance Service was held in his honor. Without our knowledge, the Prime Minister’s office sent a service team to assess our ‘performance’ on December 5, 2004 and we were deemed ‘good enough’, according to the Canadian Consulate in Hong Kong. With this first service to the Prime Minister, the 1stHKCSG started serving those forthcoming/visiting Canadian Prime Ministers. January 23, 2005

Following the handover of the sovereignty and the departure of the British Garrison, our Scouts and Venturers were invited by the Consulate General of
Canada in Hong Kong to service at subsequent Remembrance Services

1994 Guard of Honor for Governor General of Canada State Visit to HK
His Excellency the Right Honorable Ramon Hnatyshyn, Governor General of Canada, State Visited Hong Kong – our Scouts greeted and met the Governor General and provided an honor guard both during the Great Canadian Picnic and the Welcoming Dinner at the Grand Hyatt. Scouts present received State Visit coins from our Chief Scout! Sunday, May 1, 1994. The event was covered by the local newspaper as well.
