Cub Scouts

The Cub Scout Program is very educational. It helps youth develop their characters, teach them to be good citizens, and help them to be physically, mentally and morally strong.  And it is always done in fun ways!

Some info about Cub Scouts:

Glossary:

Cubs (boys and girls, grades 3 - 5)

Challenging hikes, weekend camps, and an introduction to water activities like canoeing or kayaking are just a few of the fun outdoor adventures that Cubs enjoy.

Wolf Cub Promise:
  1. I promise to do my best,
  2. To love and serve God,
  3. To do my duty to the Queen;
  4. To keep the law of the Wolf Cub Pack;
  5. And to do a good turn for somebody every day.

Wolf Cub Law:

The Cub respects the Old Wolf;
The Cub respects himself/herself.

Wolf Cub Motto:

Do Your Best

Wolf Cub Salute:
The salute is a very old form of greeting. Long ago when people greeted each other, they held up their right hand with the palm forward to show that they had no weapon in it. The salute is also a sign of respect and friendship for a leader for another Cub or Scout.
When you salute a leader or another Cub, you use a special sign. You hold your right hand to your head with two fingers spread out to look like the pointed ears of a wolf. Akela will show you how to do it.

With the Cub motto of "Do Your Best" front and centre, Cubs are encouraged to try new and more challenging activities.  Learning important first aid skills, paddling a canoe for the first time, or leading a game at camp will open the door for Cubs to try other adventures they never thought possible.

Cubs also experience an exciting variety of other activities:  games and sports, model-building, music, story-telling and play-acting.  And like Beavers, Cubs enjoy their adventures with their friends.

Cub Scouts 2015-2016

For 2015-16, the Cub Pack has a total of 26 Cubs and 13 Scouters. A total of 16 tender pads joined the Cub Pack this year. These tender pads, by means of the words contained in the Wolf Cub Promise, announced their commitment to the Cub Law, in the Investiture  Ceremony in September 2015.

Our program for 2015-16 focused on the Black Star (representing The Natural World), and the Purple Star (representing Canada and The World). We have had an enjoyable and exciting year with a variety of fun activities to support these themes.

In line with the theme of the Purple Star, we were so proud to have the RCMP Liaison Officer Ben Chang come to give us a talk about his work and the responsibilities of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), and how Canada carried its peacekeeping role in different parts of the world.

We also invited our friend Scouter Peter Lui, who is the President of the Hong Kong Aerospace Society and 205th Kowloon Scout Group of Hong Kong, to come and share a very interesting Astronaut Program with us.  Cubs learned how to build a rocket model from film canisters that flew through the air and were propelled by engines made with some fizzy tablets and water.

In November 2015, the Cub and Beaver Section helped to host the Bake Sale for the Scout Group at the Family Fun Fair in CDNIS. Our Cubs and Beavers sold muffins, cupcakes and all kinds of baking goods.  We sold so much this year that we hit a new all-time sales record!
In February 2016, we had two exciting activities.  One was the obstacle course organized by the Cub Pack for the Beavers Colony; the other was celebrating the Chinese New Year together. We had a lot of delicious food and drinks.
In the same month, on the week of 22nd , we had the Scout-Guide Week during which we celebrated the birthday of our founder Lord Baden Powell.  We celebrated by setting up a special Cub booth at the school lobby.  On display were some scout crafts made from bamboo sticks and rope, which let us demonstrate our knotting and binding skills to our fellow schoolmates.

Outdoor activities are always favourites in Scouting, which includes hiking, camping and field trips.  We had 2 camps this year: the first one was a 2-day camp in December 2015 at the Tung Tsz Scout Centre.  Cubs learned tents pitching, archery, backwood cooking, knotting and pioneering…
In March 2016, we had our second camp at the Hong Kong Adventure Corps, which is a former military camp.  We had a fun and challenging 3 day/2 night camp of "military training": including foot drills, abseiling, air gun shooting, morning inspections, team building games, etc; and of course, after every meal, everyone had to wash their own dishes!!

Another interesting outing was the Mai Po Birdwatching field trip, Cubs learned about different kinds of birds and their habitats.

For transitioning, we had our Beavers Swim-Up Ceremony and Cubs Advancement Ceremony in May.  This was when the Beavers and Cubs advance to the next stage of the Scouting program.
Last but not least, we ended the year with the most exciting activity of the year - the Water Blitz Party.
In Scouts, the Fun never stops!

Throughout this scouting year, the Cubs had to overcome many challenges and everyone worked hard to earn badges and stars. We are very proud to have 3 Cub Scouts who earned the Six-Star Award which is the highest level of recognition in the Cubs Scout Program.
